The perception is that there aren't many women filmmakers - directors, producers and screenwriters - experienced and available to work in Hollywood. That simply isn't true. Being a woman director (or producer or screenwriter) isn't a new concept. According to film historians, women began directing films around the Silent Film era and flourished during that time.
